A fisherman's death in Madison County has been ruled a drowning.

An Athens man drowned last week after his jon boat overturned during a fishing trip in Madison County, authorities said.

Last Tuesday, two men spotted the boat overturn in Lake Seagraves about 7:30 p.m., Morgan County Coroner Julia Harrison told AJC.com. The men, who were there with their families, were on the bank of the lake near Seagraves Mill Road.

The two witnesses rushed into the water to try to save Willie Andrea Howard, 48, but they were unsuccessful, Harrison said. The Madison County Water Rescue Team and Elbert County Dive Team assisted in finding the man’s body.

Howard was not wearing a life jacket at the time, Harrison said. According to his obituary in the Athens Banner-Herald, Howard was married with four children.

Harrison said the investigation into Howard’s death has been completed.
